Performing

It's Christmas Show season once again! Months (or weeks) of preparation are over, the props are ready, the costumes are on, the skaters are glittered up, the lights are dimmed...

As adults, we rarely get to perform in our daily lives. Maybe a work presentation here, a job interview there, nothing to look forward to or invite our nearest and dearest to! Skating gives us a chance to enjoy to limelight, even though most of us will share it with lots of other skaters.

Adult skaters, in my experience, are often more willing to take the mickey out of themselves and put on a good performance that is entertaining as well as a display of their skating skills. I've done several adult group numbers in various shows, and we have had the best costumes, been the funniest, and got some of the loudest cheers from the other skaters.

Don't let anyone say shows are just for the kids! All the parents of the young skaters will be so impressed that you're out there skating at all that they won't notice any mistakes. And the young skaters themselves may think you're totally nuts, but they'll still cheer for you!

So next time the sign up sheet goes up at the rink, put your name down. Take part, have fun, don't take it all too seriously, and enjoy it!!!!
